What to have ready
You do not need anything to call. If you have them to hand, these speed things up: roughly how old the roof is, whether it is one storey or two, what you are actually seeing (a ceiling stain, shingles in the yard, granules in the gutter), when the weather that may have caused it came through, whether you have already filed an insurance claim, and which part of town you are in. A photograph of the stain or the yard helps more than people expect.
If you are working to a date
PCS orders, a closing, a listing date, a lender asking for a roof certification: say so on the first call and give us the date. Inspections and certifications we can generally turn round quickly. A repair or a replacement depends on scope, materials and the weather, and if it will not fit inside your window we would rather tell you immediately so you can use somebody who can.
What happens next
We set a time, same day where water is coming in. Somebody walks the roof and, where the attic can be reached, looks from underneath too. You get photographs of everything we checked, a written summary of condition, and — if work is needed — a scope that names the materials, the underlayment, the flashing, the ventilation and the disposal, with the price. The inspection and the estimate are free and there is no obligation attached to either.
Water coming in right now, a limb through the roof, or a section peeled open? Say so when you call and you go to the front of the line. If there is any sign of electrical trouble or you smell gas, call the utility or 911 for that first. And please do not climb up to look — a wet roof at night is how people get badly hurt.
